Overview
You may have noticed that School Loop is having downtime/ frequent outages and you would like to know why this issue is happening and how it can be fixed.
Information
- The School Loop Infrastructure Team schedules a restart of all servers, (about 10 minutes) at midnight pacific (8:00 am UTC), to keep their performance optimal, and this is planned during midnight on purpose as the usage during that time is minimal to none. You do not need to worry about this daily routine.
- Regarding the short period downtimes (<5 mins), these can be caused by a variety of reasons like network instabilities or School Loop's internal restart cycle, etc. However, these won't have any significant effect on your work.
- The downtimes during other times which are not planned are what we call outages. The Infrastructure and Development teams work together to identify the root cause of the issues leading to outages and work to build prevention plans so it doesn't happen in the future. Recently we underwent some policy changes, including our policy pertaining to root cause analyses (RCA's). For a variety of reasons, we have determined that RCA's are internal documents, which we no longer share with our customers. Although we are aware this is not the news you were looking for, we want to assure you the Infrastructure and Development teams are working together to build prevention plans and implement redundancies in an effort to avoid issues in the future.
