This guide illustrates how to create site navigation with no drop-down menus at the top level and without the use of a side navigation menu on internal pages.
By way of example, check out School Loop's website.
1. Log in and go to the Site Center.
2. Create the Top Level Menu Options.
The key to this style of menu is to only create pages at the top level.
Do not add Navigation Headers or Minisites.
You may use a Link if you wish to have a top-level menu option that links to an external site.
Make sure you choose one of the page layouts that does not include the side navigation menu when creating your top level pages.
3. Create a Hidden Folder for all other Content.
Create a hidden folder at the top level along with the pages that were created previously. The name of this folder is not important, so you might as well name it "Hidden" just to keep its purpose clear. In this hidden folder, you will store all the other pages used on your site.
The pages at the top level of this folder will never display the side navigation menu, so you may choose any of the page layouts pictured above.
If you nest other folders for organizational structure, create those folders as hidden folders as well to ensure no navigation on the side of any page can be seen.
