Error
An error message is displayed that reads: "Alert! Assignments with entry errors or undefined custom codes are colored dark red."
Root Cause
This error message appears when saving anything other than a number in the Gradebook. Except for custom codes created by teachers and the letter E (exempt), anything other than a number saved in a Gradebook cell will count as a zero. The problem is often caused by a typo such as a space between digits, a comma, or a mistyped custom code. This error can be harder to identify when caused by stray characters.
Workaround/Fix
- Click inside the cell marked in red and check for any possible extra spaces and/or stray characters. For example, "38 3" or a mistyped custom code like "t/" incorrectly entered as "t\".
- Delete any problematic characters.
- In all cases, save all grades after correcting the desired scores.
Scores may exist in assignments not currently displayed on the main gradebook spreadsheet or for dropped students that are hidden. In these cases use the arrows next to the Go To... button to view more assignments or the Show Dropped button to view dropped students (picture below).
Confirmation
After all necessary corrections have been made, the error message should disappear.
