Overview
Teachers may notice that certain assignments in gradebook are shown with red background and grades for these tasks are not counted into the final grade for students. If all assignments are '"red" or have 0 points, the final grade is shown as 0% in School Loop.
Diagnosis
This issue happens when Grade Weighting is enabled and the assignment category for the corresponding tasks has 0% weight. Hence, scores are not updated and old grades are displayed for students.
Note: Grades also may not be updated when Assignments have 0 points value. For more information, refer to the article New Grades Are Not Showing.
Solution
- From the gradebook with affected assignments, hover over one of the highlighted tasks - its assignment category is displayed.
In this example, it is the default category "Assignment". - Click Settings.
- Under Gradebook Settings, select one of your gradebooks.
- Under Weighting, click Go.
- You have two possible solutions:
- Disable Grade Weighting (if it is unnecessary for you) by selecting No and clicking Submit.
- Enter the appropriate weight for the affected category and click Submit. The sum of all weights must be 100.
In this example, we will assign 30% to Assignment and decrease Discussions to 10%.
- Disable Grade Weighting (if it is unnecessary for you) by selecting No and clicking Submit.
Confirmation
Once you completed step 5, open the affected gradebook again by clicking Gradebooks and selecting the corresponding option.
The assignments are no longer highlighted with red and the final grades are calculated.
