Process
-
Login to your webmaster account. In some templates, it may be locked to only District webmasters.
-
Click the Site Center link from the Toolbox.
-
Select the page you need to modify the menu in and click Edit.
-
Click the Edit Header and Footer option.
Switching from Auto Navigation to a Series of Single Dropdowns
-
Select the Auto Navigation module.
-
Use the “Place After” tool in the menu bar to place a Top Level Menu item (Modules > Structural tab > Top Level Menu) after the auto navigation.
-
Click Select to choose the menu item and click OK.
At this point, the original Auto Navigation menu can be deleted, and all necessary top-level nav items can be added and selected as needed.
Replacing Auto Navigation with Mega Menu Navigation Items
-
Select the Auto Navigation module.
-
Use the “Place After” tool to insert a Mega Menu item.
-
Using the Format tool on the menu bar, change the Mega Menu's format to Navigation.
-
Enter the title of the Mega Menu navigation item.
-
Delete the Auto Navigation element, and proceed with adding the rest of the Mega Menu nav elements. Dropdowns can be populated with layouts, text, titles, and images.
Displaying Only Links in the Auto Navigation (Minus Drop Downs)
If you set up your site map as a series of single landing pages, with all other content in hidden folders, only links to those landing pages will be displayed in the Auto Navigation.
Alternately, the single landing pages can be followed or interspersed with mini-sites and folders. If the pages within these minisites are excluded from navigation by checking the “Exclude from Navigation” box on the Create Page screen, only the top-level landing pages will show in the Auto Navigation as links.
By using all of the above techniques in conjunction with each other, it is possible to create a navigation that has a mixture of Top Level nav dropdowns, Mega Menu nav items, and single links. For example, by replacing the Auto Navigation with a select series of Top Level nav items, altering the sitemap so that some of these only appear as links, and then adding in a collection of Mega Menu nav; such a mixture can be easily achieved.
