JPEG and PNG are the best two types of images to use on websites. When uploading images to a region with a colored background, it is desirable to have an image with a transparent background. PNG and GIF are the two most common types of images that support transparent backgrounds.
Generally speaking, you want an image that's at least as wide as the region where it will appear. Images stretched to fit the available space, may appear grainy. With that said, there's no benefit to uploading super-sized images.
Minimum Image Width
The following table lists specific minimum widths. The required image height depends on the aspect ratio.
|Carousel - Fixed Width||1200px|
|Carousel - Full Width||2000px|
|Showcase - 1 column page||805px|
|Showcase - 2 column page||500px|
|Showcase - 3 column page||375px|
|Text Logo in header||160px (square)|
|Footer Logo||750px (best at 3 x 1 or 4 x 1)|
SLS2 supports several different aspect ratios, so it's important to consider how your images will look with the various options. For example, the 3 x 1 and 4 x 1 options are wide but not tall, so a good portion of the image cannot be displayed. In the examples below, the yellow region shows what portion of a standard 4 x 3 image could be displayed in a carousel with a 16 x 9 and 3 x 1 aspect ratios. An aspect ratio of 4 x 1 would be an even thinner slice of the original image.
|Aspect Ratio: 16 x 9||Aspect Ratio: 3 x 1|
